Starting from the runway of Alexander McQueen, the fashion sense of Scottish "checks" has long been influencing what people wear on the streets. But on Monday night, the Scots took over New York City for the annual "Dressed to Kilt" event, featuring a fashion show celebrating the sartorial tradition of the highland people.

This year's theme was "Brave New World", combining Scottish heritage with Italian and American designers.

Donald Trump attended the event with his daughter Ivanka, who also modelled in the show.

Ivanka Trump said, "It's just a fun event. This is my first year participating in it but for years my father has been attending. He always had a terrific time. It's just fun."

Ivanka was joined on stage by model Marcus Schenkenburg, actress Linda Hamilton and model Monica Mitro, from Victoria's Secret.
