Children are often employed in India's fashion industry for weaving and embroidery work. The Fashion Design Council of India, or FDCI, in its commitment to social causes has picked up the issue. It seeks to create a greater awareness of the problem amongst designers and ask them to make sure children are not used on their work.
Rathi Vinay Jha, director-general of Fashion Design Council of India, said, "This event we are actually giving it to support the consciousness to be raised against child labour and also the need to nurture childhood and to help children grow in a happy environment."
Sixteen designers donated items for auction to raise money for the cause.
