The New Year's period is the busy season for showbiz. Next month, a German show will join the scene, with a western legend told through Asian music and dance.
Belly-dancers, swordsmen, glittering costumes and seductive rhythms: All part of "Night of the Sultans". The spectacular dance production will hit the Beijing stage for three days in mid-December.
The 70-member ensemble from Germany will offer a mix of modern dance, ballet, and acrobatics. In 10 chapters with 34 dance numbers, the show presents a new rendition of the saga of Prometheus.
Despite the influence of Mideastern folklore, the piece is a European production through and through; it comes from German author, director and actor Rufus Beck, with a musical score from Turkey and choreography from France.
"Night of the Sultans" is produced by Marcel Avram, who made a name for himself as tour organizer for Paul McCartney, Michael Jackson and the Rolling Stones.
