Chinese fashion has made it to Milan! For the first time, clothes carrying the "Made-in-China" tag are on the world's most coveted runway. But it also means designers face the searing scrutiny of the world press.
Shown the same day as legendary brands Gucci and Armani - the very idea seems to elevate Chinese fashion to a higher ground.
Clothing lines of two silk manufacturers, from Shanghai and Guangdong, have been chosen to showcase at Milan Fashion Week. They had to first beat out six other Chinese brands.
General Manager of Shanghai Silk Group Chen Chuan said:"I have to admit, as far as design concepts and sales strategy are concerned, Chinese fashion has yet to catch up to the west. We brought eight brands, though only two were accepted. But we still held shows for the other six, outside the Fashion Week schedule. It's important for them to be seen."
Like a debutante eager to impress, Chinese fashion has come to Milan with high hopes and understandably, a certain amount of uneasiness. It takes time for a girl to grow up.
