Art lovers can now have a rare encounter with history's great civilizations. Without stepping outside the Chinese border, they are able to appreciate masterpieces from six ancient kingdoms.
"Great Civilizations" opened Thursday afternoon. The exhibition brings together 300 works of art, dating from 3,000 B.C. to the 18th Century. It presents the brilliance of human creativity across six civilizations: Egypt, Mesopotamia, India, Greece, Rome and Meso-America.

The works are on loan from 14 museums, in Italy and America. These include the Turin Egyptian Museum, the National Museum of Rome, the Pompei Archeological Museum and New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art. Such a collaboration sets a new model, for cooperation across international borders.
Chinese visitors are taking their first look at these priceless antiquities, landmarks on the path of human evolution.
And there's no hurry, to get to The World Art Museum. "Great Civilizations" will be in China for two years, right through the Beijing Olympics. The exhibition couples with the Olympic theme, of differing cultures brought together.
