In Guangdong Province.For those in the town of Lianshan, Saturday was the water festival. On that day, ordinary water is believed to combine with that from the heavens. And revellers splash and spray it, on the people they love.

This year, the Zhuang people of Lianshan have introduced their tradition to the whole town. They take a break from farming to have fun with, or bathe in, the "holy" water.

After welcoming the God of Water, the carnival begins. People of all ethnic groups are invited, and offered a blessing of health and happiness.

A young lady will pull "the man closest to her heart" across "Lover's Bridge", while people spray "holy water" on them. And for those who don't have a lover, they can pick one up on a temporary basis.

A Zhuang merrymaker said:"Sometimes we'll find a guy we like among the tourists. As long as the guy looks nice, we'll drag him in and get him wet. The more the merrier."

A tourist said:"Very exciting, very funny! It's the first time I've witnessed such a scene."

They say, if vinegar is made from water collected on this day, it will be forever fragrant and delicious.
