This week, the Confucius Temple in East China's Quanzhou city presented a special gift to its counterpart in Tainan city across the Straits. And we'll also bring you to Northwest China's Xinjiang, to take a look at some ancient cultural relics.
A grand ceremony has been held at the Confucius Temple in Quanzhou, during which the Education Initiation Stone was presented to Tainan city. Locals will use the stone to worship Confucius after it arrives in Taiwan next week. In the old days, new students would engrave their academic objectives on the "Education Initiation Stone" when they entered school.
In Xinjiang, the Autonomous Region's second-largest group of grottos is now open to the public. Located in Kuche county, the Kumutula Grottos are thought to be more than a thousand years old. There are 112 caves in all, and more than 62 of them are decorated with exquisite murals. Droves of tourists from both home and abroad are heading to Xinjiang to check out its latest attraction.
Staying in Xinjiang, a dozen local households have been relocated following the recent discovery of a site of ancient rock paintings. Human figures are depicted on the 130-square-meter work of art. Archaeologists believe it was created by a local tribe that lived there more than three thousand years ago. Over the next five years, the site will be made into a tourist attraction.
