One person has died and another is missing after six workers were swept into the Yangtze river while watching a ship-launch near Wuhu, Anhui province. The ship company and the local maritime affairs department are still searching for the remaining missing worker.
The Wuhu Xinlian Shipbuilding Company launched its latest vessel on Monday morning. But as the huge ship rushed into the water, a strong back wave swept six workers of the company into the river.
Hearing screams from the river bank, nearby fishing boats moved to rescue the workers.
The ship company has initiated an emergency rescue plan and the local maritime affairs department has also mobilized ships to join the effort. One body has been recovered. The local authority said they have enlarged the search area in a bid to find the missing person.
The four rescued workers are now in a stable condition. A witness said the six were standing too close to the water.
