The government encouraged the youth to help raise public awareness about environmental protection. A national program to train young "green" leaders was launched on Friday, the World Environment Day. 1,000 young Environment Protection Ambassadors have been chosen to spread the green concept.
Chengdu high school student Chen Mingjia is among the first to be honored as an Environment Protection Ambassador.
Chen Mingjia has received training for the program, and says she's very interested in the work.
Chen Mingjia, student of Chengdu Foreign Language School, said, "This is the first time for me to do this kind of activities related to environmental protection. I realize the environmental issues are becoming severe. As a citizen of the earth, I fell this is our task to complete."
1,000 students have been selected as Environmental Protection Ambassadors from high schools and universities around the country. They are being trained in organizing activities in their schools and spreading environmental protection knowledge to students around them.
