The water level in the barrier lake is slowly falling, and it's expected that it could be drained in about a week. The barrier lake has cut off the river. So after the work of clearing the barrier lake is completed, a channel will be created to let the water from the upper reaches of the river continue flowing again.

Meanwhile drilling is continuing with the hopes of finding the trapped miners. The death toll has risen to 10, after rescuers recovered another body on Saturday. The landslide buried two entrances of the Jiwei Mountain mine, an iron ore plant, and 12 houses in Tiekuang Township, about 170 kilometers southeast of Chongqing.
