The Chinese Foreign Ministry says it opposes part of a U.S. bill to cut greenhouse gas emissions.
Vice Minister He Yafei said tariffs should not be imposed on countries that do not cut emissions. He said China firmly rejects attempts to advance trade protectionism under the pretext of climate change.
The U.S. House of Representatives narrowly passed sweeping legislation on Friday with one provision which could impose tariffs on imports from countries that do not make similar cuts.
