Strengthening exchanges is important for countries especially at this time of economic crisis. That's the message being delivered at a "Sweden Day" event, held in Tsinghua University in Beijing.
The event has drawn some big names in Swedish universities and business. They've come to Tsinghua University, bringing both study and work opportunities for Chinese college students.
Zang Weini, communications manager, Sandvik China, says, "Sandvik has been expanding in China. We have a total of six manufacturing factories to be built or expanded in China this year. The China market is increasingly important for us in spite of the economy. And we hope to find talented students through face-to-face communication at events like this."
It's definitely good news for college graduates, as they compete for fewer jobs in the economic slowdown.
A Tsinghua University student says, "I've collected some information about Swedish enterprises, which provide some internship opportunities to Chinese students. I've also obtained some information on Swedish colleges. I think it may be useful."
Sweden Day is jointly organized by Swedish and Chinese students. The purpose is to strengthen cultural and economic communication.
The Swedish Ambassador to China came to show his support.
Mikael Lindstorm, Swedish Ambassador to China, says, "It's like a temperature meter you can see how curious about China in Sweden. People really read about China, they want to come here or they are on a big learning curve, learn more and more. And I can feel here today the young and smart Chinese students, they are very interested in the rest of the world. It's a good sign for the future."
The event is part of a series of two-way promotional activities. A China Day event is scheduled to be held in Sweden this autumn to promote Chinese culture and business opportunities.
