Government agencies in the Xinjiang Uigur Autonomous Region have said a three-day May Day Holiday cannot meet tourists' demands to visit to Xinjiang, due to the long distance. Xinjiang says tourism income shrank by 240 million yuan last year from 2007. Authorities in Chongqing also believe tourism could stimulate consumption and employment. The National Tourism Administration has given local governments to implement golden week trials if they believe conditions call for it.
