| The May Day Golden Week is coming back in Guangdong, the first province to revive the extended 7-day holiday on a trial basis. |
The local tourism bureau says Guangdong residents and those with temporary resident permits are encouraged to take long leave during the golden week. Some travel agencies are hoping sales during the holiday will rebound this year from last year's low.
Zeng Yi, spokesman of Guangdong Nanhu Travel Service, says, "as the seven-day holiday is only available in Guangdong, scenic spots, hotels and airlines in other places will not raise prices as they did in 2007. We will also take some measures such as charter flights to control price hikes."
The news of the golden week has sent many people to travel agencies to sign up for package tours. Some agencies saw over two thousand customers. Other industries such as retail and transportation are also getting ready. Insiders predict the program could stimulate Guangdong's tourism by 500 billion yuan this year.
