Holiday-makers are looking forward to the New Year and Spring Festival. Prices for both domestic and overseas tours have dropped from last year. The biggest cut for one tour could be as much as a thousand yuan.

Travel agencies say they are working closely with local travel administrations, scenic sites, airlines and local agencies to provide lower-priced outbound travel packages.

Gao Sina, travel agent, says, "the local agents with whom we cooperate will lower their charges. The airlines are also giving some ticket discounts. Now the price for packages to Southeast Asia, South Korea and Japan are all much cheaper than last year. Southeast Asia tours are cut by 600 to 800 yuan. Japan is lower by 400 to 500 yuan, and Korea by 300 yuan."
