The research lab will also provide IT support for CCTV's high definition programs. It's expected that the cooperation will also improve CCTV's IT infrastructure and multi-media processing capability.

Song Yichun, CCTV Deputy Chief Engineer said "Most high definition programs are produced or edited on PCs. So the computers must have strong processing capability and stability. However, there are still many technical difficulties in this area. That's why we have set up this lab to find solutions for those problems."

Yang Xu, General Manager of Intel China said "Intel will bring its best and most advanced technologies to the CCTV lab. We will provide platform and technology support, and also develop new tools to help China Central Television with its HD programs. This is what the IT industry is supposed to do."

China Central Television completed its digital transformation in 2001. And all its channels will switch to HD format, after the TV station moving into its new headquarters. Analysts say the quality of HD programs are much better than traditional low resolution images. But they also require greater IT equipment and service support.
