In Shandong Province an international job fair has attracted hordes of foreign professionals as well as young people who have studied overseas.

Given current financial turmoil worldwide, many at the fair say they think their careers might do better in China's stable economic environment.

Chen Miaosheng, one overseas student said "We came back from abroad because the domestic investment environment is good. Furthermore, we love our country and want to use what we have learned abroad to improve our ability to innovate."

Official data shows that more than 310 thousand overseas graduates had returned to work as of the end of last year. They have been a big factor in boosting technological innovation and development.

But with China also addressing a slowdown in economic growth, it may not be so easy to find employment. Some job-seekers fear competition from students returning from overseas. But officials think this should not be a concern.

Ji Yunshi, Deputy Minister of Ministry of Human Resources & Social Security said "The talent we employ from abroad are mainly elite professionals who are urgently needed in China. They will contribute to our economic and social development. And they take up only a small proportion of our total employment market, so they should have a minimal impact."

The number of foreigners working in China has gone up steadily over the last few years, with more than 400 thousand recorded in 2007.
