Only 70 firms attended this year's job fair in Guangzhou city, a big drop from earlier years. But numbers of job seekers are no fewer.
Administrator of Guangzhou Job Fair said "The number of positions offered this year has dropped by 8 to 9 percent."
The labor market in cities of Shenzhen and Dongguan is no better, while the number of available positions in Guangdong Province dropped by 64 thousand in the third quarter. But as Guangdong has long suffered shortage of labor, there are still enough positions for now to meet demand.
Zheng Chaoyang, Official of Guangdong Provincial Government said "The province has 21,000 vacancies, with 18,000 people looking for jobs. The labor market seems fairly balanced in general."
Although there have been job-cuts in export-oriented enterprises, the situation is less severe for other enterprises such as logistics, retails and catering.
Guangdong has 26 million migrant workers, one tenth the total number in China. The government is now providing training for them to help them find jobs.
