A special event to help students returning from abroad start their own companies is now on in the northeastern port city of Dalian. The Ministry of Science and Technology and the Ministry of Education are hosting a week of activities.

Over the course of the Week, there will be interviews, exhibitions and seminars for Chinese students who studied overseas. The event aims to help them set up their own companies or find employment. The Dalian city government has put forward a special fund of 6 million yuan especially for this group of returning talent.

Deputy Minister of Ministry of Education Zhang Xinsheng said, "The returning students are not only able to launch their own businesses, they also play a big role in fields like economy, society, education, technology, culture, sanitation and sports. Some of them become leaders of their fields."

For the last eight years, with the help of the Company-Start-Up Week, 2,200 students have set up their own enterprises and produced 16-billion yuan of goods and services.

Since 1978, 1.2 million Chinese have gone abroad to study and 320,000 have returned, while the proportion of those returning has risen significantly since 2007.
