| China's first high performance supercomputer has rolled off the assembly line in Tianjin. |
With the brand new Shuguang 5000A, China is now the second country in the world, after the United States, that can boast the ability to develop, produce and operate supercomputers. And behind it, is an investment of more than 200 million yuan, and the work of over 500 scientists. And a research-friendly environment in Tianjin is another factor behind the achievement.
Qiu Xiaoke, Director of Dawning Information Industry said "Since we located our company in Tianjin last year, we have had one new patented product every month on the production line and sold to the market."
The producer of Shuguang 5000A says the supercomputer greatly enhances China's technological competitiveness. It also marks a major breakthrough in innovation in the industrial sector. It's generated more than 50 technical patents, and is also China's most efficient supercomputer in terms of energy use. The Tianjin Municipal government provided 50 million yuan for the project. It's also put up another 100 million yuan for the second phase of the project, which will produce half a million high-speed computers.
