Chinese legislators are suggesting tax cuts and exemptions for  the country's struggling small- and medium-sized enterprises.

At the just concluded session of the NPC Standing Committee, legislators said the move is necessary to help maintain healthy, stable economic development. SMEs are regarded one of the key fundamentals for China's economy, and should enjoy certain degree of policy preference.

With the sluggish US, EU and Japanese economies, the government says it could help domestic companies explore the vast potential market in central Asia.
