The first phase of the LNG project in Dalian, a port city in northeast China, will receive three million tonnes of LNG a year and is expected to be operational in early 2011.

Li dali, head of Key Project Headquarters of Dalian Bonded Area, said, "The project will meet the needs of all natural gas users in the Liaoning Province."

Recently, the second line of the West-East natural gas pipeline began construction in China.According to the plan, the first station will be completed by the end of the year. The 9,100-kilometer-long project is the country's first pipeline which imports overseas natural gas.

Meanwhile, after a three-year exploration, the PetroChina's No.2 disposal factory in the Sulige oil field in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has been put into operation.

Experts say the LNG consumption in the developed countries has made up to one-third of all energy use. In China, gas production and consumption is expected to rise in the coming years.
