Authorities in Shanghai are seeking approval from China's top economic planners to build an amusement park bearing the Walt Disney theme.

The city's mayor was speaking on the sidelines of the national legislative session in Beijing.

Han Zheng's comments confirm longtime speculation over plans for such a park. But Han says there's been no notice, so far, of approval. He also says no specific location had been chosen, although the focus seems to be on the Pudong area.

If built, Shanghai's Disneyland will be the third one in Asia, following similar-themed parks in Tokyo and Hong Kong.
