China has released a portion of country's reserves of pork
into the markets to maintain supplies.

The Ministry of Commerce says demand for the meat is likely to rise ahead of New Year's Day. And despite being just over a month away, Spring Festival is also another factor with people in some regions traditionally making salted pork ahead of February's holiday season.

But officials say good harvests for 4 straight years, mean there is enough pork put away to balance market demand. Production levels are also expected to rise in the year ahead.
