Construction of a high-speed rail line linking Beijing and Shanghai is likely to be completed by around 2013. And lucky passengers will see travel times between China's capital and its financial center cut by more than half from ten to less than five hours.

More than 1,300 kilometers of railway tracks will see carriages stop at 21 stations, including Tianjin, Jinan and Nanjing.

The Ministry of Railways will finance nearly 80 percent of the project. And domestic companies interested in the project have been asked to submit their applications by December the 17th.
