On Sunday, the Ministry of Commerce said that average pork prices dropped by 0.4 percent during China's National Day holiday.

The average price of live hogs dropped to 13.25 yuan per kilogram this week, 0.9 percent lower than that in the previous week. The prices have fallen for nine consecutive weeks, after they plunged 3 percent from the end of August, as pig farming was boosted in May and June to boost the supply of pork. Prices have nearly doubled in the past eight months due to supply shortages and mounting production costs.

During the National Day holiday break prices of chicken, eggs, beef and mutton rose slightly on increasing demand.
