Beijing has begun testing new trains for its subway system. The 5-thousand kilometer test began on Wednesday. And it marks the beginning of air-conditioning and other features in Beijing's subway system.

The new subway cars use special fabric seat coverings, and every carriage comes with noise-decreasing equipment. And for the first time in 40 years, air conditioning will be featured in the subway cars. All these should help make the Beijing subway more comfortable for passengers.

The subways will also be updated to be more handicapped-friendly. And passengers will be able to watch live programming on new LCD screens in both Chinese and English. All Line 1 and 2 subway trains will be upgraded by the Olympic Games next year.
