The Inner Mongolian Nonferrous Geology Prospecting Bureau announced that a geological missionary has found a lignite field in the Nuomenhan Basin, on Hulunbuir prairie. It was preliminarily estimated that the reserves would hit 20.5 billion tons.

This coalfield is located in Xinba'erhuzuo Qi, it was discovered by the 108th team of the Inner Mongolian Nonferrous Geology Prospecting Bureau. The initial confirmed reserves were 12.5 billion tons. The latest survey found that the thickness of the recoverable coal seam in the whole excavation is approximately 3.14 meters - 11.11 meters-the maximum thickness of the recoverable coal seam was 25.54 meters. The reserve is estimated to amount to 20.5 billion tons. Due to certain geographical conditions and other factors, the Hulunbuir prairie is rich in coal resources. The Huhenuoer coalfield in Xinba'erhuzuo Qi was preliminarily verified as an oversized coalfield with over ten billion tons of reserves, and the initial exploration also found that the Bayanhada coalfield in Chenba'erhu Qi, and the Honghuaerji coalfield in Ewenke Qi were also rich in resources, and further investigation for reserves must be made.
