Special Report:   May Day "Golden Week"

Though it's toward the end of the Golden Week holiday, tourist attractions are still seeing huge crowd of travellers every where. Many tourists say they can barely see anything but the swarming people.

According to the National Holiday Office, the Forbidden City in Beijing has received over 110-thousand people each day over the past four days. The authority says the number has far exceeded the attraction's theoretical maximum capacity.

Congested scenarios are also seen in the Great Wall. Tourists stand in extremely long queues to climb the Wall. While in the Tiananmen Square, the authority has suggested tourists to avoid peak visiting period, such as the national flag's raising and lowering time.

With people aswarm everywhere, Nanjing's Dr. Sun Yat-sen's Mausoleum received nearly 160-thousand people on May 2nd, a new record high. Meanwhile, over 20-thousand tourists are relaxing in Sichuan's well-known "Dead Sea".

And in Hangzhou, the famous West Lake had attracted around 1 million tourists during the first three days of the Golden Week Holiday. That's an increase of 20 percent year-on-year.

It seems that the holiday tour remains so hot among Chinese tourists.

A crowded world indeed! In fact, the tourist situation during the Golden Week Holidays' tourism has raised concerns over recent years. The National Holiday Office has said so far, no better leisure methods had been found to replace the problematic Golden Week holiday system. Regarding the congested traffic, the Office says relevant government departments are working hard to improve the current system.
