Special Report: May Day "Golden Week"China's recent rail upgrade and the launch of bullet trains are creating a bit of a stir during this May Holiday. Travellers are enjoying smoother traffic flows. And that's not just on the railways.
Most of the bullet train's tickets scheduled for the coming holiday have been sold out. Airlines are offering reduced rates to compete with the newly launched high-speed trains. Airlines are actually offering discounts on air tickets to compete with the improved trains, a rarity for any holiday.
On the flip side, road transportation is getting a bit of a boost. With fewer train stops on bullet trains, more travellers choosing to take buses to get to their holiday destinations.
