个人成就:
60年代:在中国开创了大能量电感储能装置的系统研制,建成了储能6×107焦耳的合肥7号常温电感储能装置。
70年代:进行了核聚变电工的研究发展工作,研制成我国第一台CT-6托卡马克的电磁系统,参加了意大利强磁场FT托卡马克的调试和合肥CT-8托卡马克的设计。70年代后期起,领导进行了超导磁体技术与应用的研究发展,进行了多方面的应用基础研究,研制成功多台实用超导磁体系统。
90年代:担任中国科学院电工研究所所长至1999年3月,积极领导和促进多方面电工新技术的研究与发展。组织领导了863计划燃煤磁流体发电工作,研制成功国内最大的大鞍磁体系统,在国内成功开创了磁流体船舶推进的研究发展,研制成功HEMS-1磁流体推进模型船。受丁肇中先生委托,组织领导并研制成功了空间反物质探测计划(AMS)用大型永久磁体。进行了高速磁悬浮列车在中国客运交通中战略地位的研究,领导完成了实验运营线初步可行性研究,推动了我国有关工作的发展与部署。积极参与推动了我国可再生能源发电及电动汽车工作的进展。
九十年代:共获省部级科技进步一、二等奖六项。1998年10月起,任宁波大学校长。还担任中国太阳能学会理事长,中国电工技术学会、中国能源研究会副理事长,中国电机工程学会常务理事,“中国科学”与“科学通报”副主编,“中国电工技术学报”“太阳能学报”,“低温与超导”杂志主编,多次组织领导了在国内召开的国际会议,积极推动有关学术工作的发展。
