Hair
Eyln: Hi! Welcome to Let’s talk. Did I trick you? Do you know who I am? I'm just Eyln. And do you know what we are talking about today? We’re talking about hair.

R: Hi! Do you know me? It’s still Rebecca. Today my hair is different, I’m a blonde, and I feel different, too. Change your hair is one way to make you feel different about everything, right?

E: In the 21century, we can be really special with our hair-glitter. Do you see it’s shining? And hair-mascara. You add a little bit to your hair, just like you add it to your eyes. You can look really fancy.

R: Hi! You know, in the West, they say the first thing a man notices about a woman is her hair. Now, do you think a man will notice me? Maybe I like a beautiful Chinese girl?

  E: Oh, no. I don’t know.

  R: You noticed.

E: And we don’t know what a Chinese guy noticed first in Chinese woman. So maybe you can write us some letters about that. What do you think you noticed first when you meet someone? In the West, our hair colors, we have so many hair colors.

R: And the quickest way to change your hair is to put on a hairpiece or a wig. That’s why we have brought some today. There is lots of fun, too. The vocabulary for wigs is any pieces of wig. But if it’s a piece you attached to back, it’s a fall.

E: So today we’re going to teach you some hair idioms. And one of the things you can say about hair is, if someone is bothering you, Let’s say, your parents are bothering you or your children are bothering you, you can say, “I just want to get them out of my hair, for one hour, then I can make dinner or then I can do my homework. But if you make your hair stand on the end, that means stand up, like this. What do you think that means? In the West, in English, it means you’re afraid. You can say that makes my hair stand on the end. Or you can say, “That really curled my hair.” Made your hair curly. “That really curled my hair.” That means you’re very afraid.

R: So for example, “ That was such a scary movie. It curled my hair.” Another one that I remember my parents using was, “Your kids are giving me gray hairs.”

E: To make them feel old. And if you have a child who is everyone’s favorite, everybody loves this child, he can't do anything wrong, they say he is a fair- haired boy. “Fair” means golden blond or pale blond. And even your hair is black, you might be at your home a fair- haired boy.

R: That’s right, because you’re the most beloved child. Another good idiom is to let your hair down. I think it’s true in China, but in West in history, little girls could let their hair grow, or a little boy’s. But once they were adults, they must be bond and put up tightly. Probably so they can do their work, right? So even today you might say “Oh, I work hard all week, but on the weekend, I can let my hair down. I can relax.”

E: It’s used quite often, you say, “I just want to let my hair down and relax.”

R: There was a whole musical in the 1960s in America and was called Hair. The whole point of it was a generation difference, the parents in the old fashion had short hair, and the young people all wore their hair longer. And it was how they were showing they were different. They were young generation. And that was the main point, there was difference between the young people and the old people. So you can express yourself from your hair.

E: I think so. And sometimes it’s fun to be silly. I think we all like being silly, and adding some glitter to your hair or something once in a while, I don’t know what my doggy will think when I go home, or what my husband may say when he comes home this evening. But he’ll wonder,“Oh, did you go out and had a good time at a party?”

R: And you can say, “No, we really let our hair down.We were having funny work today.”

E: So we hope you like our section on hair. Have a good time and have a good hair day.

当你的父母或孩子们让你感到心烦的时候,你可以说:“I just want to get them out of my hair for one hour. Make your hair stand on the end,让头发站起来,你想它是什么意思呢? That made my hair stand on the end. That really curled my hair,使你的头发卷起来了。

例如你可以说:“That was such a scary movie. It curled my hair.”我记得我的父母还说过:“ Your kids are giving me gray hairs.”

另一个好的成语是 let your hair down,放松休息。 所以直到今天你还可以说:“Oh, I work hard all week. But on the weekend I can let my hair down.I can relax.”

I just want to let my hair down and relax.”

你就可以说:“We really let our hair down.
