In order to prepare for ISO9000 certification, an on-the-job English training program is being carried out by Beijing Metro Corporation. Those who able to demonstrate some basic English skills have been selected for the intensive training after which they will pass on what they've learnt to their colleagues. Staff were confident of mastering the daily words and expressions required, and will try their best to improve service and to show their support for Beijing's Olympic bid.
Some important steps in local higher educational reform will be implemented this year in Beijing, including university district reform and the reduction of university numbers from 59 to about 50 through consolidation. It has been decided that the focal point of the work will be the cultivation of high level talents. Moreover, opportunities to receive higher education will be given to more people both in terms of improving the self-study examination system as well as through popularizing long-distance and further education in addition to other measures..
The year 2001 is quite important for Beijing. Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games is progressing rapidly, while another great sports competition, the 21st World Universities Games will be held here this August. Both as athletic participants and being at the centre of the games, college students have shown much enthusiasm for and optimism about Beijing's bid.

为了准备ISO9000认证，北京地铁公司为员工们办起了在职英语培训班，他们选出英语基础较好的员工集中训练，再让他们把学到的内容教给同事。员工们对学好英语日常会话很有信心，并且要更好地为乘客服务，以实际行动来支持北京申奥。
今年北京高等教育将实施一系列新举措，包括组建综合大学区以及通过合并手段将现有的59所高校减少到50所左右等等。同时把培养高层次人才作为工作重点。此外，还要通过完善自学考试制度，大力推行远程教育和继续教育等手段，为人们提供更多的接受高等教育的机会。
2001年对于北京来说是至关重要的一年。申奥工作正在深入开展，而另一项重大赛事——第21届大学生运动会几个月后也将在这里举行。作为活动的积极参与者和大运会的主体力量，大学生们对这些活动有着浓厚的兴趣，并对北京申奥成功充满信心。
