Beijing Opera, considered China's national opera, originated in the late 18th century. It is a synthesis of music, dance, art and acrobatics, and is the most influential and representative of all the types of opera in China.
Based upon the traditional Anhui Opera, Beijing Opera has also adopted
repertoire, music and performing techniques from Kun Opera and
Qinqiang Opera as well as traditional folk tunes over the course of its
development, finally coming to form its own highly stylized music and
performing techniques.
