Herders' festival held in Shannan, Tibet

  BEIJING, Sep. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- The Herders‘ Festival was held on a pasture about 20 km east of Chigu Town in Shannan Prefecture, Tibet, on Tuesday. It will run till Sep. 5, according to Tibet Business.

  An official of the Tourism Bureau of Shannan Prefecture said Zhegu was chosen as the festival venue for its unique geographical features - the snow-capped mountains, lakes, pastures, and a large number of wild animals.

  Besides,the water there is both drinkable for large numbers of people and animals. The tourists also have the chance of watching wildlife such as wild donkeys, which can often be spotted on the grassland of Chigu. The hillside across the festival venue is a perfect location to enjoy the scenery of the Chigu Lake.

  The official added that the spot will be the regular site of the herders‘ festivals over the next few years. After the event, the grassland affected will be washed with water.

  Various activities such as dancing, singing performance and sports competitions were staged during the festival. Also held will be trade fairs for animal and livestock by-products, ethnic handicrafts, rare Tibetan medicinal materials and Tibetan mastiffs.
