Shandong coastal waters frozen

The sea ice near Laizhou Bay extends up to 20 nautical miles out from the coast and has stranded some 500 ships, including 100 fishing boats from other provinces. A dozen rescue services are delivering water, food and other necessities to those trapped.

    The cold snap is affecting wildlife in Shandong Province. At a seal park, near Yantai city, large areas of water have frozen over. More than 60 seals are stranded on the slippery surface. When in the water, their flippers propel them and help them catch even the most agile fish.
