Accommodations

The Shanghai Tourism Administration disclosed that in the 184 days of the Expo, there will be 65 accommodation shortage days, which include 17 extreme peak days before and after the opening and closing ceremonies, as well as 48 peak days on weekends. During the period, Shanghai can only provide about 557,000 beds, just barely meeting the tourists' accommodation demands. In order to scatter the tourists, Shanghai will enlarge the accommodation resources, such as the vacant students' dormitories, staff quarters and the ordinary citizens' houses, all of which will be used to temporarily accommodate the tourists.

Shanghai Tourism Administration has decided to make use of the surrounding cities on the Yangtze River Delta, which is a less than 1.5 hour bus ride away from Shanghai, including Hangzhou, Huzhou, Suzhou, Wuxi and Jiaxing. These cities will provide a total of 249,000 beds and then the accommodation resources will be launched on the Internet so the tourists can make their choice and make reservations online.
