Many people did not drive to the homes of their relatives or friends, gave up firecrackers and used electronic greeting cards to express their New Year's wishes. For many Chongqing residents, this year's Spring Festival was a bit different as it was characterized by the low-carbon lifestyle.

Many people did not drive to the homes of their relatives or friends, gave up firecrackers and used electronic greeting cards to express their New Year's wishes. For many Chongqing residents, this year's Spring Festival was a bit different as it was characterized by the low-carbon lifestyle.

Visiting relatives on foot

Cao Changpeng, who lives in Xiaojiawan, got up early with his family members on January 4 (on the lunar calendar). They planned to visit Cao's maternal grandmother that day. Cao suddenly changed his mind as he headed for the garage.

Everyone was confused when Cao said "let's go there on foot as we are not in a hurry today."Shortly after that, Cao's father responded that walking is good for people's health and they could take a bus if they felt tired as the traffic was so light during the festival.

The four people in Cao's family went out, talking and laughing

"I used my car during workdays because I am usually in a hurry to get to work, even though I know that it is not an environmentally friendly mode of transportation," said Cao. He had to drive his car during workdays but things were different during the Spring Festival and during this period he had enough time to experience the low-carbon lifestyle.

Reporters learned that quite a few people visited their relatives and friends by bicycle during the festival, which is good to their health and for the environment.
