Beijing traffic authorities disclosed on November 22 that Beijing taxis will charge passengers a one yuan fuel surcharge starting from November 25.

Starting from midnight on November 25, passengers traveling more than three kilometers in a Beijing taxi will have to pay a one yuan fuel surcharge plus the fare shown on the meter.

According to a Beijing notice on a mechanism linking taxi fares with oil prices, if the price of 93 gasoline in Beijing exceeds 6.5 yuan per liter, taxi fares will be linked with oil prices. If the price of 93 gasoline rises to between 6.5 yuan and 7.1 yuan per liter, taxi drivers will receive temporary fuel subsidies from the government and enterprises, and taxi passengers traveling more than three kilometers will have to pay a one yuan fuel surcharge.

On November 10, the price of 93 gasoline in Beijing rose from 6.28 yuan per liter to 6.66 yuan per liter, exceeding the threshold when taxi fares must be linked to oil prices, thus requiring the implementation of the fuel surcharge.

Starting from midnight on November 25, Beijing taxis must post a uniform sign informing passengers about the fuel surcharge. As well as a "Beijing Taxi invoice", taxi drivers must also issue a "Beijing Taxi fuel surcharge invoice".
