All her relatives had objected to her giving liver to her son
"My wife is a kind-hearted, yet strong-minded woman." On November 5 outside the ICU at Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, Chen's husband Ye Guoxiang said calmly that during the 31 years of their marriage, his wife has moved him many times, but her decision to give part of her liver to their son despite the objection of all relatives really shocked him. "On the day of the operation, the 13 hours between 9am when my wife was sent to the operation room and 10pm when my son was moved out of the operation room seemed like 13 days to me. I thought a lot during that period. I thought should anything happen to my wife, I would have nothing to live for."
"I am a native of Huanggang and my wife's family lived in a suburb near Wuhan. I am two years older than her. In 1976, my brother introduced me to her. At that time, I had just started to work for a transportation company under the Hubei Crude Oil Company after I was demobilized from the army. We dated for about three years. I found she was virtuous, smart and beautiful. She got on well with people. Everyone who had met her speak high of her. We married in early 1978." Ye was in high spirits when he reminisced about meeting his wife.
Ye said that Chen is a kind-hearted and virtuous woman, but she definitely has a very outgoing personality and sometimes she is very strong-minded. She will insist she finishes the thing that she thinks she should do. "For example, she walked five kilometers every day to save our son. This is a very hard thing that other people dare not imagine."
