Musical instrument maker in Guangzhou builds tiny violin

2009-11-06 16:31 BJT

Perfectly formed

The Super Miniature Violin can be held on a finger tip and its faceplate is just 1cm long. The violin has all parts including the head, fingerboard, faceplate and sound holes, which were finally stuck together with glue.

Pointing at four holes on the tailpiece where strings will be attached, Chen said, "The holes were drilled using a 0.1mm-diameter drill, and require strings finer than a strand of hair." Once the strings are attached, the project will be complete.

The violin has a weak sound

A normal violin has a 35.5cm faceplate but that of this miniature violin is just 1cm; can it be played? "Yes of course!" said Chen. But he also admitted that the violin may not produce a completely normal sound because its strings are too fine and its bow is too short.
