Armless boy writes with his foot, goes to college

2009-07-31 14:02 BJT

At 5 am on the second morning after the college entrance exams, he and a group of students went to a reservoir near Fenghua to fish. They did not return home until 5 pm that evening. Huanjie especially enjoyed fishing because he felt that “it is an activity that tests your patience, only those who can endure loneliness can return with a catch!”

Like other young men, Huanjie also likes sports, especially soccer. He is extremely familiar with soccer stars like Thierry Henry and Lionel Messi. However, he himself is a skilled sprinter and long jumper. In August 2002, at the Ningbo Para Games, young Huanjie received first place in three events for youths, the 100 meter dash, 200 meter dash and the long jump.

Huanjie is also good with computers. “I use the big toes and second toes of my left and right feet to type on the keyboard and move the mouse.” Reporters saw him smoothly use his big toe to turn on the computer. Once he opened QQ, his toes tapped across the keyboard, entering information with no errors, and with the same speed as a normal person.

Huanjie received a good score of 639 marks during this year’s college entrance exams, but still had some regrets. “During my language test, I was only left with 45 minutes to complete my essay, so I was unable to carefully read the question before answering. Furthermore, using my foot to write the answer is a lot slower than using a hand to write, so my essay was badly written. Huanjie received 95 marks out of a possible 150 on the essay portion of the test, just barely passing.

He took his physical condition into consideration when picking which university he would attend, and chose to study economics at Ningbo University. His dream is to “open an enterprise and do business.”

Upon receiving his admission notice, Huanjie started to drill himself even more comprehensively in order to deal with problems he would encounter in taking care of himself at the university. He did not want to trouble his fellow students and roommates, especially when dealing with private matters such as showering and going to the toilet.

He bashfully told reporters, that he looked forward to attending university and also had a lot of dreams and goals. He had no hands, and so would rely even more on his feet to keep him grounded.
