Starting from July 1, Beijing and Tianjin will mutually absorb 1 million yuan of highway toll fees for tourist buses for a 6 months period. Both Beijing and Tianjin will also introduce a number of tourism products by the end of this year, including free five-star hotel accommodation for newlyweds on their honeymoon, Beijing Tourism Administration (BTA) said on June 30.

Toll-free program covers 28 travel agencies

Following the launch of Beijing-Tianjin high-speed railway, the number of Beijing tourists visiting Tianjin during the first quarter of this year increased by nearly 80 percent year-on-year. The number of Tianjin tourists visiting Beijing increased by 50 percent year-on-year. Tourism bureaus in Beijing and Tianjin have launched mutually beneficial tourism programs to stimulate the tourism markets of the two cities.

Starting from July 1, Beijing will absorb an accumulative 1 million yuan of highway toll fees for vehicles hired by Tianjin’s travel agencies that organize tours to Beijing, and Tianjin will do the same for Beijing’s travel agencies. The toll-free program will end either on December 31 this year or whenever the exempted toll fees reach 1 million yuan.

Beijing has selected an initial batch of 11 travel agencies for the preferential program, including the head office of China International Travel Service, China CYTS Tours and Beijing Caissa International Travel Service Company. Seventeen travel agencies in Tianjin organizing tours to Beijing will be exempted from paying highway tolls.

Four preferential tourism measures will be launched this year

In the second half of this year, tourism departments in Beijing and Tianjin will introduce four tourism products targeting newlyweds on their honeymoon, female shoppers, young people on study tours and the elderly for recreational activities.

The BTA said the two cities’ tourism bureaus will each offer 100 honeymooning couples one free night accommodation in a five-star hotel. Hotels participating in the program include Beijing Hotel and the Hong Kong Macau Center. Female tourists from Beijing and Tianjin can enjoy larger discounts when shopping at Qianmen Street and Wangfujing in Beijing, and the shopping area on Heping Street (dubbed the “golden street”) and Binjiang Road in Tianjin. The 10,000 youngsters on study tours in the two cities during the summer vacation will be given complimentary entrance tickets to the “Bird’s Nest” and the “Tianjin Eye” Ferris wheel.
