A variety of activities to be held across BJ during Dragon Boat Festival

Activities for the first Beijing Dragon Boat Cultural Festival will take place from May 21 through June 8. The 33 public activities, rich in the unique characteristics of the Dragon Boat Festival, will unfold one by one across Beijing.

Among them, the second Longtan Dragon Boat Cultural Festival will be held from May 28 through June 1 at Longtan Park.

At 9 am on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, actors dressed in Han clothing will host a performance on the central island in Longtan Park to commemorate Qu Yuan. From May 28 through 30, a dragon boat race will be held at 9 am each morning. Activities will be held on the central island every day until June 1, including intangible cultural heritage shows, and ethnic cultural exhibitions and performances.

On the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, 20 dragon boat teams from Beijing will participate in a dragon boat race on the 5,000 mu expanse of water in Guishui Park in Yanqing County. At the same time, a zongzi wrapping contest, with 100 participants, will be held in Yanqing Cultural Square where tourists can enroll into groups for the contest. Starting from May 27, performing groups from nine countries, including a Barranquilla carnival song and dance troupe from Colombia, Argentina Tango Group and Swedish band Los Pelados, will give wonderful performances at the Cultural Center Square, the Exhibition Center Square, and the movie and opera theaters in Yanqing.

During the activities, public service advertisements on this traditional festival will be circularly broadcasted on various Beijing Television Station channels, and on mobile and city TV networks in Beijing. 50,000 Dragon Boat Festival public service posters will be posted everywhere in urban communities and rural areas across Beijing.
