Recently, Tibet´s Shannan Prefecture held the “100-City Tourism Promotion Week and Tibet Shannan Tourism Promotion" with the theme "Tour Beautiful Pure Tibet in 2009, the Chinese Ecotourism Year." During the event, it was announced that some tourism spots in Shannan will be open free of admission charge during the Labor Day holiday or even for the entire year.

Reporters learned that Shannan Prefecture has launched a series of preferential measures covering tourism routes, scenery sites, food and beverage, accommodation and leisure spots, and has promoted “Lebu” ecotourism, a new route and product. This was done to further give play to the advantage of tourism resources in being the “original site of Tibet and Tibetan culture,” develop competitive products, and create core competitiveness.

In order to enhance its popularity as the original site of Tibet and Tibetan culture among people outside of Shannan Prefecture and to attract more tourists to the area, Shannan is sponsoring “free admission for three days” during the Labor Day holiday at scenic spots with rich cultural heritage, including the Tombs of the Tibetan Kings, the Mindroling Monastery and the Samye Monastery, “one ticket for two visitors” at the Yambulakhang Palace and the Trandruk Monastery, and “annual free admission” at Lebu valley in Cona County and Langsailin Garden in Zhanang County.

At the same time, all hotels and guesthouses in Shannan are having promotions for food, beverage and rooms at special prices as well as various preferential and discount activities from April 13 to May 3. “Shannan Prefecture is also carrying out relevant reward-based measures for improving recovery and development of local tourism. Specific rewards will be granted after the Labor Day holiday,” said Tan Jin, Deputy Director-General of the Tourism Bureau of Shannan Prefecture.

In addition, all travel agencies in Shannan have launched special-priced routes including ecological tours, red tours, culture tours, pasture tours and short-distance international tours.
