Master builder comes to Shanghai
From one of China's most noted stage directors, Lin Zhaohua, comes the production of "The Master Builder" which premiered in Beijing last August. And now it's heading for a four week spell at Shanghai's Majestic Theater.
"The Master Builder" is a play written by Norwegian playwright Henrik Ibsen. It was published in 1892 and was first performed in Berlin in 1893. It tells the story of Halvard Solness who is at the pinnacle of his success as the master builder. But one day he suddenly loses his passion for life and fears that "Youth will come knocking at the door" to usurp him from his cherished position. Then the sudden appearance of an enigmatic woman arouses again his desire and his lost faith in life.
