    This biography of singer and songwriter Ray Charles follows Charles from his childhood in the segregated South, where his determined mother refuses to let his blindness lead to self-pity, through his early struggles as a musician, his drug use, his relationships with the many women in his life, and his eventual success as a performer and recording artist.

    Including his nomination this year for Best Picture for RAY, this is the third Academy Award nomination for Taylor Hackford. He was previously nominated for:
