Free DTV for Beijing

Viewers in the Chinese capital Beijing are to make the switch to watching digital television.

To accelerate the switch, viewers will receive digital set-top boxes at no charge. According to Chinese radio reports, funding for the initiative will be funded by a mix of state cash from local authorities and investment from the commercial sector.

The move was announced by the Beijing Broadcast and Media TV company at a digital forum held as part of the fourth World Summit on Internet and Multimedia, which took place recently in Beijing.
