Denmark´s famed Little Mermaid statue has left her perch in Copenhagen harbor and is embarking on a journey to the World Expo in Shanghai. This is her first trip abroad in her 96 year history.
The renowned Little Mermaid left Denmark´s Copenhagen harbor on Thursday heading for Expo 2010 in Shanghai on its first overseas journey since its birth in 1913.
She is the little mermaid statue, the national treasure of Denmark and well-known symbol of the city of Copenhagen. In 2010, she will depart from her hometown, which she has watched for more than 90 years, and "swim" to the Huangpu River and come to the Danish pavilion at the Shanghai World Expo in order to meet the Chinese visitors.
