The stage was created at a former factory beside the Huangpu River. It will be one of the seven main indoor performance areas in the Expo site.

The "Baosteel Stage" has two stages, covering 11,200 square meters and will accommodate about 3,500 spectators who will also enjoy views of the Huangpu River.

Performances from China's provinces and municipalities will be featured on the stage as well as some ceremonies.

Plants will surround the performance area and rainwater will be collected and used for some special effects.

The basic structure of the stage has been completed and the interior outfitting will begin soon.

Shanghai vice mayor Ai Baojun, Zhong Yanqun, fulltime deputy director of the Shanghai World Expo Executive Committee and Xu Lejiang, president of the Baosteel Group, attended the naming ceremony.
